Oh my gosh. I think that David Hewlett rocked in this episode of Stargate Atlantis! It almost brought me to tears after I watched it, because I thought it was so sad. I wish the stupid space channel would start playing the fith season. They haven’t even started the fourth!

I agree with most of what you say about this episode. For me it was nearly brilliant. But what kept it from being completely so was Rodney’s declaration of love at the end. I found this to be totally out of left field in lieu of the past episodes. Rodney and Keller barely shared any screen time this season. And ditto for last season with the exception of Trio (Last Man really can’t count because, hey, it didn’t really happen!). And don’t forget only last season in Quarantine McKay was about to propose to another woman! Either he falls in love very, very fast or the writers just wanted to rush this romance along. Either way, it fell flat for me.

1) Genuine typo. I was watching this scene as I wrote it, so.

2) As you can see from my source, Irresistible was listed as a Brad Wright episode. Incorrectly, unfortunately.

3) Homage or not, I still don’t feel it worked. I don’t think it disrupts the flow any less just because Kirk shot something similarly thirty years ago.

A few corrections…

1) Woolsey was remembering his father, not his grandfather.

2) Brad Wright did not write Irresistible. Carl Binder did, off a story idea from Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper.

And the scene where the creature jumps out of McKay’s head and Ronon shoots it? A pure homage to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, when the ceti eel emerges from Chekov’s ear, and Kirk shoots the eel with his phaser.

I love Stargate Atlantis!
