Downtime and Upgrade

Apologies for the downtime over the last 24 hours.

We decided to move our server over to another, making the site PHP5 compliant. While there is little hugely evident change on the surface, it means we get access to a nice new array of plug-ins.

We hope this’ll allow us to add some nifty new features in the future, and already you can “Like” us on Facebook and suggest us to your friends, but more importantly, if you don’t have an account on SFH, you can still comment using your Facebook login.

That’s all for the time-being, but keep the sci-fi love flowing!

Synopsis:

Site Downtime

Apologies for the recent site downtime.

This was due to a technical error at our hosts who were migrating servers. At some point during this process, several database user permissions were lost.

These have now been repaired, and the site is fully functional once again.

Staff Wanted (London, UK)

We’re thrilled with the response to our recent staff requests, and we’ve had a further vacancy open up.

Sci-Fi Heaven looking for a reviewer living in or near London, England in order to attend press events in the capital. Ideally, we want someone to go along to as early movie screenings and Q&A sessions with a level of decorum and professionalism that will hold the site in high regard.

Our current staff are from all across the world, and we do not at present have a London resident to attend these events with any real frequency.

Obviously, if you’re interested in applying, experience in the field of writing reviews and attending press events would be extremely helpful (although in the case of having attended press events, not essential).

You would be given a choice in terms of which events you choose to attend.

Please note: this is a voluntary position, but it certainly has its perks.

Ever wanted to make your big break in the blog-o-sphere? Do you know the difference between a Dilithium Chamber and an EPS conduit? Do you know what a GNDN pipe is? Do you have an Elfish catchphrase?

Why risk being ostracised from your real-life social community when you can join the writers here at Sci-Fi Heaven. We’ve got big plans for our future, but our big plans mean quality content. The more of us work together, the easier it’ll be to turn our already oft-frequented website into a sci-fi colossus.

We’re looking for:

1x Sci-Fi Rumour Correspondent

A few general writers.

Ideally, we’d look for an article every couple of days, and if it hits off we’ll be recruiting more very soon. It is a voluntary position, but if you have a passion for blogging then why not give it a try!?

Cleaner. Easier. More efficient.

These might be words commonly associated with hospital reform policies in the UK, but they also happen to be the idea behind the latest incarnation of Sci-Fi Heaven.

Drawing inspiration from the clean, easy-to-use interface of BBC News Online, Sci-Fi Heaven’s latest theme makes our work easier, and hopefully your user experience more enjoyable.
